Warri Wolves confirms West Ham bid for Egwuekwe

Warri Wolves has confirmed that West Ham has made a bid to sign Super Eagles defender, Azubuike Egwuekwe.

Sam Allardyce is looking to strengthen his backline as uncertainty continues to surround the future of Winston Reid, who has yet to agree a new contract with the east London club.

The West Ham manager has already signed Canada international, Doneil Henry, and could be set to sign another defender before the end of January.

Egwuekwe, who is just 25, is rated one of the best defenders in Africa and would relish the chance to showcase his talents in the Premier League.

Warri Wolves CEO, Davidson Owumi, speaking on one the Nigerian media, said: ‘’We don’t like revealing contractual information until we have concluded negotiations.

“It may affect the player’s career. Warri Wolves is a professional club.

‘’West Ham is interested and there was a bid from the club. When talks are concluded, we will inform the public.

‘’There is division of labour at Warri Wolves. People are handling the matter and when they are through, they will bring the file to my table for approval. The Board will be informed of the transfer, the transaction is ongoing.’’
