According to Sl10.ng,the 18-year old who was being courted by both the England Football Association and the Nigeria Football Federation,have chosen to represent the Africans.
Iwobi, who captains Arsenal’s U21 squad stormed the camp of Nigeria’s U23 men’s football team, The Dream Team, on Wednesday morning, and looks set to make the squad, as he is expected to train with the Nigerian side for a few days before returning to England.
It remains unclear however, if he will make Nigeria’s squad to Libreville for the February 20 All Africa Games qualifier against Gabon.
“He (Iwobi) is here with us at the moment, as he arrived this morning (Wednesday), but he will not stay for long now, he will only be with us for about three or four days before he returns back to England,” spokesperson of the Nigerian team, Timi Ebikagboro said.
The 18-year is a nephew to former Nigeria and Bolton Wanderers captain, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, and is highly revered at the Emirates by Arsene Wenger.
The player, who was born in Lagos, has already signed professional terms with Arsenal. He is still eligible for both England and Nigeria.
