After the news broke that the list of the final 23 candidates for the Ballon d’or had been released, fans all over the world searched through to find if their favourite player made the list. It was same to me, but after rejoicing that Barca had 4 players among the 23,
i discovered that one righteous man was missing,
LUIS SUAREZ. This made me think that the list was from a false source.
Oh my God! Luisito is not in the list! This must be false! I exclaimed.
But the major question trending through the tongues of football fans is ‘why was he left out’? Well, there must be a reason. These are the possible reasons why France Football decided to ditch the European Golden Shoe winner.
HE BIT AT THE WORLD CUP Urgh! If this is the reason, then FIFA and France football needs to be ‘hanged, flogged and hanged again’. Is four month and nine international games ban not enough? “It is the Golden Ball not Golden Ball and Mouth” as said by Liverpool Manager Brendan Rodgers. Hmm! Remember, Zidane head-butted at the World Cup too. I rest my case.
HE DIDN’T PLAY IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE But i guess i didn’t see James Rodriguez there too. Or maybe my sight fails me at times.
HE DIDN’T PERFORM AT THE WORLD CUP This reason make me laugh. Ha ha ha. Out of the 23 players listed, Suarez performed better than at least 8 of them in the world cup. Perhaps, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Gareth Bale were typical absentees.
To be frank, i don’t see any reason why the ‘European Golden Shoe winner, BPL top scorer, PFA Player of the year, BPL Player of the season, FWA Footballer of the year’ should not be included among the 23 best players. It is total injustice.
SUAREZ NOTABLE STATS IN THE EPL LAST SEASON
• Most goals (31)
• Most Assists (12)
• Created the most clear cut chances (22)
• Scored the most clear cut chances (17)
• Most shot that hit the woodwork (9)
• Most whoscored.com man of the match awards (14)
• Most shot on target (81)
• Most penalties won (3)
• Attempted the most dribbles (237)
• Made the most accurate through balls.
• Most hat-tricks (3)
Finally, he was the joint winner of the European Golden Shoe award with Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo by scoring 31 goals in the EPL. Moreover, Luisito’s 31 goals included no penalty while CR7 scored 6 times from the spot.
Luis Suarez was rated statistically as the best player in Europes top 5 leagues by WhoScored, beating Messi and Cristiano. WHY THEN WAS HE NOT INCLUDED? We still ask. Obviously, he was among the best players of last season if not the best. THIS IS PURE INJUSTICE. Why? FIFA. Why? France Football. WHY?
