The Turkish Super Lig side, Adana Demirspor, have triggered the option to buy Super Eagles international winger, soccernet.ng reports.

Onyekuru, who spent the last season on loan with Turkish Super Lig side, Adana Demirspor, featured in twenty-eight league games for the club side, and turned out with eight goals and two assists that helped the club side secure fourth position in the league, meaning they will be playing the Europa Conference league qualifications next season.

The Nigerian winger, who was loaned from Olympiakos, forty-five time winner of the Super League Greece with an option to buy last season, has just sealed a final move to Adana Demirspor

According to reports in the Turkish press, the club exercised the buy option included in the 26-year-old’s loan contract, triggering a transfer fee of 3.5 million Euros, and securing a three-year deal for the winger.

Onyekuru’s stellar performances in the league were more than enough to convince Adana Demirspor to sign him on a permanent deal, and it now looks like the Nigerian has finally found his feet after making lots of transfer moves in recent years, but barely settling in.

In the last six years, the Nigerian has signed for Everton, Anderlecht, Galatasaray, Monaco, Olympiakos, and Adana Demirspor.

After having a season to forget with Olympiakos, where he scored just a goal in twenty-seven appearances, Onyekuru will be looking to surprise the Turkish big boys next season and go as far as possible in the Europa Conference League. The Nigerian international will attend Mavi Imekler’s camp in Düzce Topuk Plateau in Turkey.

“He said he would break my head”- Onyekuru reveals how Morocco star convinced him to join Demirspor https://soccernet.ng/2022/12/he-said-he-would-break-my-head-onyekuru-reveals-how-morocco-star-convinced-him-to-join-demirspor.html https://soccernet.ng/2022/12/he-said-he-would-break-my-head-onyekuru-reveals-how-morocco-star-convinced-him-to-join-demirspor.html#respond Fri, 16 Dec 2022 07:15:09 +0000 https://soccernet.ng/?p=84910 Onyekuru struggled to impress at Olympiakos, but he has found a new home at Adana

Super Eagles striker Henry Onyekuru has revealed that Morocco forward Younes Belhanda influenced his decision to join Turkish Super Lig side Adana Demirspor.

Onyekuru joined Greek side Olympiakos last, but he failed to make an impact despite winning the league. The former Everton man only managed one goal in 27 appearances.

He clearly was not enjoying his time at Olympiakos, and he had to leave.

Several Turkish sides were looking to secure his signature including former champions Galatasaray and Fenerbahce. A transfer to Galatasaray looked like his next move because he already played there before and won the Super Lig.

Surprisingly, Onyekuru opted for a transfer to Adana Demirspor on a season-long loan. The Nigerian attacker, who is enjoying life in Turkey has revealed that Morocco star Belhanda influenced his decision.

“I think if I remember correctly, Belhanda said something like ‘If you don’t come to Adana Demirspor, I will cut your head off, I will break your head. Of course, it was a joke,” Onyekuru told Fanatik as per Goal.

“The reason why he wanted to is that we already have a friendship from the past, we played together on the field.

“On this occasion, he asked me to come, thinking that we would better understand and adapt to each other on the field. It was such a moment.”

Belhanda and Onyekuru were teammates at Galatasaray before Onyekury left the club.

The transfer has since paid off for Onyekuru, as he has enjoyed a fine start to the season recording four assists and two goals in 13 appearances.

“Ilu oshi”- Super Eagles star throws Nigeria Immigration Service under the bus https://soccernet.ng/2022/11/ilu-oshi-super-eagles-star-throws-nigeria-immigration-service-under-the-bus.html https://soccernet.ng/2022/11/ilu-oshi-super-eagles-star-throws-nigeria-immigration-service-under-the-bus.html#comments Thu, 03 Nov 2022 14:14:52 +0000 https://soccernet.ng/?p=83012 The Nigerian striker did not take any prisoners, as he used strong words against the immigration system in the country

Super Eagles striker Henry Onyekuru took to social media to criticize Nigeria for their slow immigration system when juxtaposed with the Turkish Immigration System.

Onyekuru has had a great time in Turkey since his season-long loan move to Adana Demirspor, scoring four goals and assisting two in twelve appearances.

However, off the pitch, the Nigerian hasn’t exactly replicated that same brilliance.

In a social media post, the 25-year-old used strong words to condemn Nigeria’s immigration system.

Judging from his post, he had to wait for about three months to get his passport in Lagos. However, he needed just three hours to secure his passport in Turkey.

Onyekuru has 16 caps for the Super Eagles. He has also played for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations. Still, he took no prisoners, calling Nigeria “ilu oshi” (useless/bad) country.

The Nigeria Immigration Service actually needs to get better, but it is shocking for a National team player to completely throw the system under the bus publicly.

Super Eagles striker returns to action ahead of big Turkish clash https://soccernet.ng/2022/09/super-eagles-striker-returns-to-action-ahead-of-big-turkish-clash.html https://soccernet.ng/2022/09/super-eagles-striker-returns-to-action-ahead-of-big-turkish-clash.html#respond Mon, 26 Sep 2022 20:46:56 +0000 https://soccernet.ng/?p=81400 The in-form Super Eagles star was ruled out of Nigeria’s friendly game against Algeria, but he could be back in action just days later

Super Eagles striker Henry Onyekuru has resumed training with Adana Demirspor ahead of their big Turkish Super Lig clash against Galatasaray on Saturday.

Onyekuru joined Adana Demirspor in the summer on a loan transfer from serial Greek champions Olympiakos. Since he arrived in Turkey, the Super Eagles forward has been spectacular for the Blue Lightnings, scoring two goals and assisting two in seven league games.

His brilliance earned him a spot in coach Jose Peseiro’s 25-man squad for the friendly against Algeria.

Unfortunately for Onyekuru, he sustained an injury in Adana Demirspor’s game against Konyaspor before the international break.

The injury effectively ruled him out of the Super Eagles’ game against Algeria. However, days later, Adana Demirspor president Murat Sancak allayed fears of a possible lengthy layoff.

Now, according to Depar Sports, Onyekuru has returned to training for the Super Lig leaders. And it is believed that the 25-year-old would be fully fit ahead of Adana Demirspor’s clash against Galatasaray on Saturday.

The fixture is the biggest and most significant in Turkey at the moment considering Adana Demirspor’s blistering start to the season that has seen them drop just four points from a possible 28.

Undisputed Turkish giants Galatasaray sit second in the Super Lig behind Adana Demirspor, albeit due to their inferior goal difference. And they would be looking to topple their Adana hosts with a victory.

Nonetheless, Onyekuru could have a big say if he plays. The Super Eagles star won the Super Lig and Turkish Cup with Galatasaray in 2019. But this time, he would be looking to wreak havoc against them.

Three players who can fill in for Osimhen, Umar, and Omeruo in Algeria clash https://soccernet.ng/2022/09/three-players-who-can-fill-in-for-osimhen-umar-and-omeruo-in-algeria-clash.html https://soccernet.ng/2022/09/three-players-who-can-fill-in-for-osimhen-umar-and-omeruo-in-algeria-clash.html#respond Tue, 13 Sep 2022 10:53:49 +0000 https://soccernet.ng/?p=80489 The Super Eagles will be without three of their most important players, but Peseiro would have to improvise

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will be without three of their best and most reliable players when they square off against Algeria in Oran on the 27th of September.

Napoli star Victor Osimhen is out of action for at least four weeks, Sadiq Umar may not play football till April next year, and Kenneth Omeruo will be out of action for Leganes for about a month.

The absence of his three Trojans means that coach Jose Peseiro would have to improvise and look for good replacements.

Soccernet suggests some of the players Peseiro could look at when he releases his squad list for the tough friendly.

David Okereke

In Osimhen’s absence, Cremonese hitman Okereke could fit into Peseiro’s setup.

The 25-year-old striker has enjoyed a decent start to the season at his newly-promoted side. Okereke has been the livewire in Massimiliano Alvini’s lineup this season, scoring two goals in six Serie A games.

The former Club Brugge man is a good dribbler, he is energetic, and is also a good finisher.

Okereke is yet to feature for the Super Eagles, but he has a good chance to change that with Osimhen’s absence.

Henry Onyekuru

After a fortuitous campaign at Olympiakos that saw him score just once in 27 games, Onyekuru has hit the ground running at Adana Demirspor.

The former Everton forward has scored two goals and assisted two in his last six games for his Turkish employers. And he is currently one of the hottest players in the Super Lig.

Onyekuru was left out of Peseiro’s teams for the Nations Cup qualifiers against Sao Tome & Principe and Sierra Leone in June. However, with his recent displays, it would not be out of place to hand the 25-year-old a call-up.

Kevin Akpoguma

Hoffenheim have been decent this season, winning four of their opening six games. And Akpoguma has been integral in their success. The center-back has played six games and has two clean sheets to his name.

Akpoguma has also recorded 1.7 tackles per game, 1.2 interceptions, and has not been dribbled past this season.

Nonetheless, Peseiro may have to switch tactics because all these players have varying strengths and qualities.

Henry Onyekuru, Adana Demirspor 3-0 Sivasspor

Cast aside in Greece, Henry Onyekuru is blooming in Turkey, where he scored his third goal in three games and second in two competitive matches for Adana Demirspor.

After scoring on his league debut in the 3-2 win at Giresunspor last weekend, Onyekuru was at it again on Friday night.

The 25-year-old combined brilliantly with compatriot David Akintola to double Adana Demirspor’s lead six minutes into the second half.

Nigerian winger Akintola then distinguished himself with the home side’s third of the encounter in the 70th minute.

Adana Demirspor momentarily go top of the Turkish Super Lig with that victory.

Chukwueze, Real Valladolid 0-3 Villarreal

Samuel Chukwueze was a second-half substitute as Villarreal kicked off their 2022-23 La Liga campaign in style with a commanding 3-0 win at Real Valladolid.

Unai Emery’s men were holding on to the slimmest of advantages when Chukwueze was introduced for Coquelin in the 63rd minute.

Several minutes later, the Super Eagles winger set up Álex Baena to double the visitors’ lead.

Baena completed his brace in stoppage time as the Yellow Submarines secured the biggest win of La Liga’s opening day.

Maja, Bordeaux 1-0 Niort

Super Eagles hopeful Josh Maja helped Bordeaux maintain their unbeaten start to life in Ligue 2 with a narrow victory over Niort.

Maja, 23, laid on the assist for 20-year-old French midfielder Logan Delaurier-Chaubet to slam home the winner on the hour-mark.

With two wins and a draw in three games, Bordeaux have gathered seven points to go joint top of the Ligue 2 as they target an instant return to Ligue 1.

Super Falcons forward Francisca Ordega scored her fifth goal of the campaign as CSKA Moscow thrashed visiting Rubin Kazan at the

After a goalless first half, the home side went on a scoring spree in the second half, with the Nigeria international grabbing the last goal in the 88th minute.

Despite the win, the Muscovites remain five points behind leaders Zenit and are poised to finish as runners-up in the Supreme Division Women.

After Nwakaeme’s move to Saudi Arabia, Trabzonspor have been scouring Europe in search of a replacement and Henry Onyekuru may be their choice ahead of the new season.

Onyekuru struggled at Greek champions, Olympiacos last season scoring just one goal all season.

Nwakaeme, Onyekuru and other Nigerian football stars met at a party organised by Olanrewaju Kayode for his wife and manager, Dora in Lagos.

At the event, which also had the newly-married Paul Onuachu, John Ogu, and others in attendance saw the players talk about their future.

Onuachu revealed that his manager is working on an exit from Genk while Kayode revealed he’d be staying back at Sivasspor.

When asked about his future, Onyekuru said he may be returning to the Turkish Super Lig with Nwakaeme reported to have lifted the lid on the arrangement and revealing the player will replace him at the Black Sea Storm.

One of the guests at the event, Ugochukwu Igboanugo who is also Kayode’s friend asked the question and Nwakaeme replied, “He will wear my jersey. I was the first to congratulate him”

Time to move? Super Eagles forward didn’t score a single league goal last season https://soccernet.ng/2022/06/time-to-move-super-eagles-forward-didnt-score-a-single-league-goal-last-season.html https://soccernet.ng/2022/06/time-to-move-super-eagles-forward-didnt-score-a-single-league-goal-last-season.html#respond Wed, 15 Jun 2022 10:23:55 +0000 https://soccernet.ng/?p=75198 It’s not the best of times for Super Eagles attacker after failing to score a single league goal in fourteen games

Time was when the former Eupen forward was the real deal. He soon moved to Anderlecht and starred there also.

While an Everton stay could not happen over work permit issues, he was on loan Monaco and has had spells at Galatasaray where he’s deemed a cult hero.

Henry Onyekuru didn’t have the best of seasons, as he failed to turn up the lights in Greece where Olympiacos emerged champions.

In fourteen league games, he scored no goal and scored once in ten Europa League games in the past season.

Amid his struggle for form on the club end, he was a part of the Super Eagles’ AFCON party to Cameroon but the team got eliminated in the round of 16 despite starting the tournament as the team to beat.

Onyekuru is currently on the radar of European clubs including Galatasaray where he has found solace in the past and has found as his stomping ground. Should a move to Istanbul materialise, the well-followed forward will may find his footing again and get back to business.

His last season’s stats must improve, however, and at 25, he’s yet to hit his peak years. There is room for growth and there are great possibilities of returning to his Eupen levels.

The incoming season holds a lot of promise but Onyekuru must also be willing to be the difference, play regularly and find his way back to the Super Eagles.

Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray are closing on a move for Super Eagles forward Henry Onyekuru from Olympiakos.

Olympiakos paid Monaco €4.5million for Onyekuru’s services last summer. However, it was a largely disappointing campaign for the Super Eagles striker as he only played a peripheral role in their league triumph with the Legends.

Onyekuru featured in only 27 games in all competitions last season, notching a solitary goal and assist.

There were reports earlier that Olympiakos would be willing to let Onyekuru go this summer. Some top Turkish clubs were linked to him including Besiktas, Fenerbahce, and Galatasaray.

However, according to Eno Sports, Galatasaray President Dursun Ozbek has concluded talks with Olympiakos, and the 22-time Super Lig champions are in pole position to land the Super Eagles star this summer.

Onyekuru already has good history with Galatasaray. He has had three different loan stints with the Cimbom, claiming a domestic double in the 2018/19 season.

He would look to pick the pieces of his career if the deal suffices.

Super Eagles star Henry Onyekuru is set to join Galatasaray on a loan deal from Greek Champions Olympiakos this summer.

Onyekuru left Monaco for Olympiakos in a €4.5million transfer last summer, but it turned out to be a wrong move for the 24-year-old as despite winning the league, he struggled to make an impact for the Legends.

The former Everton man struggled to get game time last season, averaging just 26 minutes on 14 league appearances. Onyekuru was also off-color, as he had just one goal and one assist in 27 appearances across all competitions last season.

With Onyekuru’s performance, Olympiakos are willing to let him go this summer. The 24-year-old has already been linked with a return to the Turkish Super Lig.

According to Sportcell, Greek giants Galatasaray are looking to secure his services on loan this summer.

If the deal works out, it would be Onyekuru’s third stint at the club, returning after he left Istanbul last January.

Onyekuru has a good history with Galatasaray, claiming two trophies with the club in 2019. He made 71 appearances for the former Turkish champions, notching 22 goals and 12 assists.
