Former Borussia Dortmund and Ajax midfielder, Sunday Oliseh, has heaped praise on Nigerian forward Akor Adams for his impressive goal against Lorient, as Adams continues to make a name for himself at Montpellier, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 23-year-old Nigerian forward made the switch to the French Ligue 1 side from Lillestrom during the summer transfer window.

Since joining Montpellier, Adams has been in sensational form, scoring five goals in just seven appearances, establishing himself as a formidable striker and earning recognition from both the Nigerian football community and fans worldwide.

In their recent encounter with FC Lorient, where Montpellier secured a convincing 3-0 victory, Adams played a pivotal role. He scored a brace during his full 90 minutes on the pitch.

In the build-up to the third goal, Adams received a well-placed pass from the midfield. He skillfully dribbled past a Lorient defender and then fired the ball past Yvon Mvogo to seal the victory.

This goal caught the attention of former midfield maestro, Oliseh, who was impressed by Adams’ dribbling and finishing skills.

“As kids in Lagos, we used to call this dribble before scoring by Akor Adams ‘Kuro lọna’… Abeg Commot for road … Simply beautifully executed.” Oliseh expressed his admiration on his X (formerly Twitter) feed.

Montpellier currently occupies the 9th position in the league standings with 9 points, trailing league leaders Monaco by 5 points.

As Montpellier prepares to face Clermont at De le Mosson Stadium on Sunday, they aim to narrow the gap in the standings, with Akor Adams expected to continue his impressive performances.

Why I joined West Bromwich- Super Eagles’ Josh Maja reveals https://soccernet.ng/2023/08/why-i-joined-west-bromwich-super-eagles-josh-maja-reveals.html https://soccernet.ng/2023/08/why-i-joined-west-bromwich-super-eagles-josh-maja-reveals.html#respond Thu, 03 Aug 2023 08:02:25 +0000 https://soccernet.ng/?p=100994 The Super Eagles star earlier piqued the interest of some clubs like Rangers and FC Liorent who were looking to secure his services

Super Eagles striker, Josh Maja, has shed light on his decision to join English Championship club West Bromwich Albion despite attracting interest from other clubs like Rangers FC and FC Lorient, Soccernet.ng reports.

Reflecting on his time in France, Maja described the experience as fun but felt the need for a fresh start after spending four-and-a-half years away from the United Kingdom.

The one-capped Super Eagles’ sharpshooter, had become a sought-after talent, with clubs like Rangers FC and FC Lorient earlier vying for his signature.

But in the buzzing world of football transfers, it was the allure of West Bromwich Albion that won the Nigerian international over.

Maja, taking a moment to reflect on his journey, shared his thoughts on his time in France, where he had plied his trade.

“It was certainly a fun experience playing in France,” he said. “It’s completely different to the United Kingdom in terms of style and tempo, but I feel like I learnt a lot.”

Recalling last year, Maja admitted, “Last year was probably the best year of my career in terms of consistency, goals, and game time, so yeah, I would say it was a great experience overall.”

However, as the days turned into months, the sensation of nostalgia began to creep in. “I felt like I needed a fresh start just because I had been away from the United Kingdom for a while,” he revealed, the longing for home. “I spent four-and-a-half years in France.”

Amidst the clamour of suitors, Maja found himself captivated by West Brom’s vision and the sincerity of their ambitions.

“We knew Albion were one of the clubs interested in me and our ambitions seemed to match quite well,” he added.

With curiosity and admiration for West Brom’s head coach, Carlos Corberán, Maja spoke of their encounter, “The conversation I had with Carlos Corberán was short. I’ve only spoken to him once, but that’s probably all I needed.”

He continued with enthusiasm, “I got a really good energy from him. He’s a serious coach with intense ideas and an intense mentality which is something that matches up with me and my values.”

Maja with anticipation, talked about his hopes and expectations and how he is eager to learn from the seasoned coach and make his mark on the field.

“He’s a football head, which I am as well,” he explained, “I’m hoping to learn a lot from him and to perform well, I’ve heard a lot of great things from teammates from the past who have said good things about him.”

Maja’s passion for embarking on this new journey with West Bromwich Albion was ultimately evident. His choice was influenced by a common love of the game, a shared set of objectives, and a potential working relationship with Corberán.

Josh Maja’s surprising move to West Brom: A questionable career decision? https://soccernet.ng/2023/08/josh-majas-surprising-move-to-west-brom-a-questionable-career-decision.html https://soccernet.ng/2023/08/josh-majas-surprising-move-to-west-brom-a-questionable-career-decision.html#comments Wed, 02 Aug 2023 07:00:38 +0000 https://soccernet.ng/?p=100904 Josh Maja’s recent transfer to West Bromwich Albion Football Club has left fans and football enthusiasts scratching their heads in bewilderment.

After an impressive stint at Bordeaux, where he showcased his goal-scoring prowess, the one-cap Nigerian international was hotly pursued by top teams like FC Lorient and Rangers FC.

With such promising opportunities on the horizon, his decision to join an English Division Two team like West Brom seems puzzling and raises questions about the strategic aspect of his career move.

Moving from grass to grass instead of reaching for the grace of top-flight football, Maja’s choice to opt for the English Championship is unexpected.

With several clubs vying for his signature, many anticipated that he would choose a path that aligns with his ambition and potential.

The Championship, while competitive, does not provide the same level of exposure and recognition as the Premier League or other top European leagues.

As fans wonder about the reasoning behind this move, one cannot help but ponder if there are underlying factors that influenced Maja’s decision.

Perhaps contractual or personal considerations are at play, but from a pure footballing perspective, it raises eyebrows.

The Hawthorns outfit, a storied club with a rich history, is indeed in the midst of a promotion battle, and Maja could play a vital role in their campaign.

However, given his abilities and the interest shown by more prominent clubs, some may view this move as a missed opportunity to shine on a bigger stage.

It’s important to remember that football careers are not always linear, and players may have unique reasons for their choices.

While Maja’s decision may raise concerns, it also presents an opportunity for him to prove doubters wrong and significantly impact the Championship.

Only time will tell how this move pans out for Maja and West Brom. His decision may be vindicated if he can continue his goal-scoring form and help the club secure promotion.

On the other hand, if he fails to make a significant impact, questions will persist about why he chose the path he did.

Why Bordeaux’s Josh Maja is perfect to replace Terem Moffi at FC Lorient https://soccernet.ng/2023/07/why-bordeauxs-josh-maja-is-perfect-to-replace-terem-moffi-at-fc-lorient.html https://soccernet.ng/2023/07/why-bordeauxs-josh-maja-is-perfect-to-replace-terem-moffi-at-fc-lorient.html#respond Sun, 16 Jul 2023 10:28:21 +0000 https://soccernet.ng/?p=99317 Super Eagles forward, Josh Maja, has had an impressive season with the Girondins de Bordeaux, but with the expiration of his contract, the London-born striker is currently a free agent.

Soccernet.ng earlier reported that the Nigerian attacker had been linked with a move to several clubs like Rangers FC, and some English Premier League clubs in the past, but a recent report from 90 min could foresee him replacing his countryman Terem Moffi who left FC Lorient to OGC Nice.

Nonetheless, the former Fulham forward fits a promising option to fill the void left by Moffi at FC Lorient. The former Manchester City youth player has showcased his ability to perform consistently and make an impact in various leagues, including Ligue 2, the Premier League, and the Championship.

With a track record of 16 goals and 6 assists in the previous season, Maja has proven his goal-scoring prowess and ability to contribute to the team’s attacking play.

One of Maja’s notable strengths is his versatility in playing as a lone striker or in partnership with another forward. This adaptability allows him to fit seamlessly into different tactical systems, providing Lorient with options in their offensive approach.

Moreover, Maja’s technical skills and ability to combine effectively with attacking teammates make him a valuable asset in tight spaces, which is crucial for breaking down stubborn defences.

Considering the current struggles of Bamba Dieng and Ibrahima Koné to consistently perform on the offensive front, bringing in a player of Maja’s calibre could inject much-needed quality and competition.

Maja’s goal-scoring ability, demonstrated by his impressive conversion rate compared to expected goals, shows his efficiency and effectiveness in front of goal.

While it is important to acknowledge that every player is unique and may bring different qualities to the team, Maja’s profile aligns well with the requirements of FC Lorient.

His track record, technical ability, and adaptability make him a strong candidate to potentially replicate or even surpass the impact that Moffi had during his time at the club.

The addition of Maja could provide the necessary boost to Lorient’s attacking options and help them maintain their competitive edge in the upcoming season.
