The Nigerian international was at his eye-catching best as his contribution powered Nantes to a thrilling, eight-goal home win
Super Eagles star Moses Simon scored one and assisted another to help Nantes come from behind twice to beat struggling Girondins Bordeaux 5-3 in an exciting Ligue 1 clash on Sunday.
With a place in the European qualification spots still in sight, Nantes manager Antoine Koumbare unleashed his four most effective attackers from kickoff on the struggling visitors.
Moses Simon, substituted in the loss at Marseille last time, combined with Ludovic Blas, and Kalifa Coulibaly to provide the service to lone forward Randal Kolo Muani.
Still, it was Bordeaux that raced to a two-goal lead within the opening 18 minutes through Mbaye Niang and Dilrosun – an advantage they held until the break.
Nantes, however, started the second period better than the first and were back on levelled terms with the first six minutes thanks to Coulibaly’s effort and Ricardo Mangas’s own-goal.
Enock Kwateng restored Bordeaux’s lead in the 67th minute before Moses Simon took over the show.
First, the Nigerian international did well to set up Coulibaly for his second of the game to make it 3-3. The Super Eagles winger then gave Nantes the lead for the first time in the game, with 18 minutes left of regulation time.
Still, the fans inside the Stade de la Beaujoire had not had enough of the fireworks, with Bordeaux winning a penalty in the 87th minute. But Nantes goalkeeper Alban Lafont saved Jimmy Briand’s kick to keep the home side ahead.
And Nantes finally sealed the win in stoppage time after Osman Bukari headed home Randal Kolo Muani’s cross.
Following Moses Simon’s latest contribution, the 26-year-old now has four goals, and eight assists in 28 league matches for the Yellow Canaries this term.
