Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman got off the bench to score for Atalanta in their disappointing 3-2 loss to newly-promoted Como at the Gewiss Stadium, Soccernet.ng reports.
Lookman played his first Serie A game of the season at Atalanta two weeks ago in their 3-2 win over Fiorentina. He was the hero in that game, scoring one and assisting another to help his side.
Then, last week, the Super Eagles forward was involved in their Europa League fixture against Arsenal at the Gewiss Stadium.
Due to the workload, coach Gian Pero Gasperini opted to rest Lookman for their home game against Como. It looked like Gasperini’s decision would pay off as Atalanta took a 1-0 lead into half time.
However, the game turned on its head after the break, as Gabriel Strefezza pulled one back for Como just seconds into the second half. Then, in the 54th minute, Sead Kolasinac scored an own goal to give the visitors the lead.
Immediately after going a goal down, Gasperini introduced Lookman into the game, but that could not stop the bleeding immediately as Como scored again in the 58th minute to make it 3-1.
After scoring their third, Como were content with defending their lead, hoping to catch Atalanta on the counter.
That paid off, as Atalanta failed to score until the 97th minute, when Vanja Vlahovic won a penalty. Lookman took charge of the responsibility and converted the opportunity calmly to make it 3-2. Unfortunately for Atalanta, the game ended that way after regulation time.
