Former France international William Gallas has urged Chelsea to sign Napoli’s Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen before the transfer window closes, Soccernet.ng reports.
Gallas, a former Chelsea defender, has passionately called on his former club to secure the services of Osimhen, whom he believes would be a transformative addition to the team.
The former Arsenal captain contends that the prolific Nigerian striker has the potential to elevate Chelsea to new heights, reminiscent of the impact Didier Drogba had during his time at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have been consistently linked with the Napoli forward, with discussions of a loan deal including an option to buy reportedly taking place between Napoli and the London club last month.
Gallas has stressed that Osimhen could replicate Drogba’s exploits, which saw the Ivorian lead Chelsea to Premier League and UEFA Champions League glory.
“Like Didier Drogba, Victor Osimhen can take Chelsea to the next level,” Gallas said in an interview with Genting Casino as per L-Frii.
“Looking at what he did with Napoli, leading them to the title, he could do the same with Chelsea. The club needs a striker, and I don’t know what they’re waiting for.”
According to reports from The Athletic via Football London, Chelsea are set to re-enter the transfer market for Osimhen after securing a deal for Pedro Neto and Omorodion.
The club views both Omorodion and current player Nicolas Jackson as potential deputies to the Nigerian striker. Osimhen played a crucial role in Napoli’s 2022/23 Serie A triumph, scoring 26 league goals and five more in the Champions League.
Napoli’s struggles last season, including a 10th-place finish and internal turmoil, have reportedly made both Osimhen and teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia open to potential moves.
Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are considered the only European clubs capable of meeting Napoli’s £100 million-plus asking price for Osimhen.
