The Nigeria international has been reborn in the Turkish top flight, and he could be presented with a second chance to impress in England’s elite division
Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu has emerged as a hot prospect for three Premier League clubs, with scouts closely monitoring his impressive run at Turkish club Trabzonspor, Soccernet.ng reports.
Currently on loan from Sky Bet Championship side Southampton, Onuachu, 29, had a lackluster stint with the Saints after his €18m move from Belgian Pro League outfit KRC Genk in January.
Failing to make an impact with zero goals or assists in 12 league appearances, the towering forward struggled to find his rhythm in the Premier League.
However, a change of scenery appears to have revitalized Onuachu’s career.
At Trabzonspor, the Super Eagles striker has rediscovered his scoring touch, finding the back of the net seven times in just ten league outings.
According to transfer expert Ekrem Konur, Onuachu’s resurgence has sparked interest from three unnamed Premier League clubs and an Italian side, all keenly monitoring the Nigerian’s performance.
Konur, updating the situation on his official social media handle, X (formerly Twitter), stated, “Three clubs from the Premier League and the Italian league are monitoring the situation of 29-year-old Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu, who is on loan at Trabzonspor.”
Southampton initially invested €18m in acquiring Onuachu, and his sudden resurgence could potentially offer them a chance to recoup their investment if a transfer materialises.
However, Southampton are open to having Onuachu return to the club at the end of the season and possibly help fight for a promotion ticket.
