Super Eagles transfer update: Will Valencia extend Sadiq Umar’s stay at Mestalla?

Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar could be in line for a permanent stay at Valencia following an impressive run of form since arriving on loan from Real Sociedad in January, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian forward played a pivotal role over the weekend as Valencia stunned Real Madrid 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu — their first win at the stadium in 17 years.

The match marked a turning point for Sadiq, who had previously faced Los Blancos three times without a win or goal to his name.

Since arriving at Mestalla, the former Almería striker has gradually settled into manager Carlos Corberán’s system, where he has shown more hunger and drive in recent games.

Scoring four goals in his 17 domestic league appearances for the club, his resurgence has not gone unnoticed, with Valencia’s technical department already exploring the possibility of keeping him beyond the current campaign.

There is a purchase option included in the loan deal from Real Sociedad, but the club are approaching the matter with caution.

Per reports from Todofichajes, Valencia believe it is crucial to first convince the player of their long-term sporting project before entering into negotiations with the San Sebastián outfit.

Further reports reveal that officials at the club understand that Sadiq, who missed out on Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 AFCON due to injury, thrives when given confidence and a clear role.

In recent weeks, he has begun to feel more important within the team setup — totaling five goals in 24 appearances for Valencia—which could tip the scales in favour of a permanent deal.

If his progress continues and the club can assure him of continuity and a vital role, there’s every indication that Sadiq Umar could be wearing the black and white of Valencia next season.
