“He’ll be back” – Super Eagles winger backs Iheanacho to turn poor Middlesbrough form around

Super Eagles and Sevilla winger, Chidera Ejuke has backed Middlesbrough forward, Kelechi Promise Iheanacho, to turn his poor run of form around, Soccernet.ng reports.

Iheanacho moved to Spain after his contract with Leicester City wound up in the season he helped the Foxes return to the English top-flight league.

Life in Spain didn’t go well for the ex-Manchester City striker. In nine league games, the 28-year-old was unable to get a goal involvement. Still, Ejuke believes Iheanacho isn’t one to be written off just yet.

What Ejuke said about Iheanacho

“You can’t take any credit away from Iheanacho, to be honest, because we all know who he is. With his quality, with his success in the Premier League with Leicester, he’s a top-level player, with a lot of qualities and everything.

“The adaptation probably hasn’t been easy, but you can’t take anything away from him. He’s only out for a while, and hopefully he’ll come back in the next phase of the new season and pick up where he left off,” the former Hertha Berlin winger said in an interview with the Hill of Nervion.

Additionally, the fleet-footed winger admitted it was a good atmosphere in Sevilla to have fellow Nigerians in the dressing room and on the training ground.

“We always have a good feeling. The atmosphere in the team, in general, is good, and, of course, with Dodi, I’ve known him before, the same with Iheanacho, I knew him before, and with Akor Adams as well.

“So, obviously, we have a certain dynamic, and also, with Akor and Iheanacho, we’re Nigerians. So, we have that Nigerian vibe and all that. It’s a good atmosphere and it’s always enjoyable,” Ejuke concluded.

Like Iheanacho, Ejuke was not a part of the Super Eagles 23-man squad selected by Eric Chelle for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, but he’s urged the Nigerian team to give their all.

“We’ve got a lot of players in Nigeria, and believe me, at the end of the day it’s the coach’s decision, and he knows what he’s doing. So, for me, if I have the opportunity to go there, I’ll always be happy to represent my country. I wish the boys the best and obviously I’ll be watching as well, and I hope they win the games.”

Nigeria will take on Rwanda on Friday at the Stade Amahoro in Kigali, before taking on Zimbabwe next Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
