49-goal Super Eagles stiker to miss big Turkish Super Lig clash

Super Eagles striker Anthony Nwakaeme will miss Trabzonspor’s Turkish Super Lig cracker against Besiktas next week due a hamstring injury, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nwakaeme has been a constant figure in Trabzonspor’s attack this season, featuring in 19 games across all competitions. He also has two goals and three assists to his name.

However, Trabzonspor will have to manage without him for a while. This is as the 39-year-old striker has suffered a hamstring injury and could be out of action for two weeks.

Nwakaeme sustained the injury in Trabzonspor’s 1-0 win over Eyupspor last week. And after tests, it was confirmed to be an injury to his right hamstring.

With the time he is expected to spend on the sidelines, Nwakaeme will miss the big Super Lig derby against Besiktas at the Tupras Stadium in Instanbul on February 15. He will also miss the fixture against Gaziantep at the Papara Stadium in Trabzon.

Nonetheless, Nwakaeme could be back in time for Trabzonspor’s Super Lig clash against Rizespor on February 26.

How many games has Nwakaeme played for Nigeria?

Nwakaeme was called up to the Super Eagles squad a few times during Gernot Rohr’s time in charge of the team.

He got his debut in October 2017, in a 2018 World Cup Qualifiers fixture against Algeria. The game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes, but Algeria were later awarded three points and three goal after it was confirmed that Nigeria fielded an ineligible player.

So technically, Nwakaeme does not have a cap for Nigeria. At club level, however, he has been successful at Trabzonspor. He has scored 49 goals for them, leading the club to the Super Lig title three seasons ago.
