Fulham and Super Eagles defender, Calvin Chinedu Bassey, has opened up on his time at Ajax, revealing he stills reaches out to some of his ex-teammates, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 25-year-old versatile defender joined the Dutch giants ahead of the 2022/2023 season from SPFL side, Rangers, and he immediately became a first team regular, playing 32 games and scoring one goal.
Bassey moved to Ajax for £20m from Rangers, a record fee at the time, but the following season, he joined Fulham for £19.3m, signing a four-year deal.
In an interview with Viaplay sports Nederland, the left-footer revealed he misses Ajax as a club, and life in the city of Amsterdam.
“Yeah, I actually do you know. I do a bit, it was nice. I miss the boys, we had a good team, a nice team, all nice guys.
”Obviously, I still see some of them here in the UK. Timber [Jurrien], Kudus [Mohammed], Edson [Alvarez], yeah, so it’s okay,” the former Leicester City defended mentioned.
“Yeah, we text each other. We still speak. I still talk to all the boys there.
“Looking back on my time there, I think it was alright. It was a year to learn, to improve. I was able to play fourty games, able to play Champions League. So for me, it was decent,” the 2023 AFCON finalist concluded.
