Ahmed Musa vs Brown Ideye: 2013 AFCON winners face off – Who stole the show?

Kano Pillars emerged victorious with a 2-0 win over Enyimba in their rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) matchday 14 encounter, Soccernet.ng reports.

At the Sani Abacha Stadium on Thursday, the true hero of the evening was Abba Adam, whose brace stole the spotlight and all three points for the hosts.

The game was billed as a showdown between two Super Eagles players—Ahmed Musa, who plays for Kano Pillars and Enyimba’s Brown Ideye—both part of the victorious 2013 AFCON squad. However, it was Adam, not the big-name forwards, who delivered the goods for Pillars.

Despite early dominance from the hosts, the breakthrough came in the 26th minute when Abba Adam capitalised on a superb pass from Ibrahim Inuwa, beating his marker to slot the ball home and give Kano Pillars a deserved lead. The goal saw the hosts take control of the game, and held onto their advantage into the second half.

Enyimba, who had been showing signs of improvement recently, struggled to break down Pillars’ defence. Coach Stanley Eguma’s side made a few substitutions to shake things up, but it was too little, too late.

Adam completed his brace in the 72nd minute with a clinical finish to make it 2-0, which sealed Pillars’ first win over Enyimba at home in almost eight years.

Musa and Ideye were relatively quiet on the evening, but Adam’s performance ensured Kano Pillars rose to seventh in the league standings. Enyimba, on the other hand, dropped to eighth, with their five-match unbeaten run in the league coming to a disappointing end.
