Atalanta Sporting Director issues January transfer update on Ademola Lookman

Atalanta’s Sporting Director, Tony D’Amico, has revealed that the 2024 UEFA Europa League winners will do their best to keep Ademola Lookman and their other superstars when the January transfer window opens, Soccernet.ng reports.

Lookman has been impressive for club and country all year,  and was crowned the 2024 African Player of the Year a few weeks ago, after he was placed 14th in the Ballon d’Or rankings.

The former Everton forward has been linked with several top clubs, most notably with interests from English Premier League sides like Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Lookman continued his good form with Gian Piero Gasperini’s side last night as he assisted Charles De Ketalaere in Atalanta’s 1-1 away draw to Lazio after Fisayo Ayodele-Bashiru broke the deadlock.

Speaking after the game, D’Amico revealed Atalanta are not putting themselves under any sort of pressure as the title race at the top of the league heats up.

“There is no extra pressure, we continue as always to take it one game at a time and focus only on ourselves. It is the end of a wonderful and exciting 2024 for us, with two Finals and one trophy. I reiterate, this is an important game, but we always face them the same way, trying to achieve the best we can. This 2024 has been unforgettable. Lazio are a very good team who invested well in the transfer market, they are doing well this season and are a quality opponent,” the 44-year-old told Sky Sports Italia.

Quizzed about the possibility of losing their highly-coveted stars like Ademola Lookman and Ederson in the January transfer window, D’Amico said;

“Certainly, the January transfer window is a difficult one for all clubs. If there are any opportunities, we will go for them, but obviously maintaining the full squad that we currently have at our disposal.”

Atalanta spent Christmas as the Serie A leaders, although Inter are now level after beating Cagliari 3-0 and have a game in hand.
