“Another great chance from Alex Iwobi” – Portuguese gaffer hails Nigerian star in Fulham’s draw to Tottenham

Fulham manager Marco Silva has praised Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi for his contribution in their 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night, Soccernet.ng reports.

The encounter at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was a tightly contested affair, with both sides creating opportunities, with Brennan Johsnon opening the scoring for the hosts and Tom Cairney pulling on back.

Silva, after the game reflected on the key moments where Fulham could have taken the lead, including a chance involving the Supee Eagles midfielder.

“We did control really well the situation, and it’s not easy to be on the front foot always against a team like Tottenham, when they have Werner, Johnson or Kulusevski in that front line, plus always Maddison to provide the right passes for them, and we did it very well first half.” Silva said.

The Portuguese tactician was particularly impressed with Fulham’s performance in the second half, where Iwobi took the spotlight again with an assist.

“Even in the second half, the first chances were from ourselves. Great chance from Issa, another great chance from Alex Iwobi before we conceded the goal,” Silva noted.

Iwobi, who joined Fulham from Everton during the summer transfer window, has steadily integrated into Silva’s system. The former Arsenal forward has also added creativity to the midfield.

Silva, however, lamented Fulham’s inability to capitalise on their dominance during critical phases of the game.

“Okay, we have to be more ruthless in the moments that we are controlling the game. We cannot give the chance like we gave,” he added.

The result leaves Fulham in the middle of the Premier League table, and they will be hoping to pack valuable points in the busy December period.
