Osimhen’s strike not enough, as  Galatasaray drop points at AZ Alkmaar

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen scored for Galatasaray in their 1-1 draw against AZ Alkmaar at the AFAS Stadion, Soccernet.ng reports.

Galatasaray returned to Europa League action with a fixture against Dutch club AZ Alkmaar on Thursday. Last time out, the Turkish champions claimed a hard-fought 3-2 win against Tottenham at Rams Park, and they were looking to continue with that form at Alkmaar.

However, they got a rude shock just two minutes into the fixture, as Sven Mijnans scored the opener for AZ Alkmaar. After going behind, Galatasaray picked up the pace and started pressing for an equalizer.

They had to wait until the 43rd minute before they got it, and it was courtesy of Nigerian striker Osimhen. The 25-year-old Super Eagles star jumped highest to meet a cross from Dries Mertens and headed home to make it 1-1.

Galatasaray dominated the second half, and looked the more dangerous side. But they failed to score despite their nine goal attempts in the second half.

Osimhen had a tense moment towards the end if the game as he was on the receiving end of a cynical tackle from Kees Smit, who eventually got sent off.

Despite their late pressure, Galatasaray failed to score, and it eventually ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.
