Boniface will score if he starts – Eguavoen backs Leverkusen striker ahead of Libya clash

Super Eagles’ interim head coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has expressed full confidence in striker Victor Boniface ahead of Nigeria’s crucial Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifier against Libya, Soccernet.ng reports.

The big striker has not had the best of luck on international duty, having struggled to score his first goal for Nigeria despite getting extended playing time under Eguavoen.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, the former Super Eagles’ defender assured fans that Boniface, who is yet to score for the national team, will find the back of the net if he is in the starting lineup for the showdown at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

“Victor Boniface has always been part of this team. Yes, he has not been able to find the back of the net. But I can assure you that if he starts tomorrow, he will score,” Eguavoen confidently stated as shared by Sulaiman Adebayo.

Despite Boniface’s impressive form for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, he has yet to replicate that goal-scoring form on the international stage. However, Eguavoen believes the striker is on the verge of a breakthrough and will make a significant impact against Libya.

As Nigeria prepares to face the Mediterranean Knights, the Super Eagles will rely heavily on Boniface’s energy and finishing skills in the absence of Victor Osimhen, who is out with injury. The team is determined to secure three points and edge closer to AFCON qualification.

With Eguavoen’s confidence in his striker, all eyes will be on Boniface to deliver on the big stage and lead Nigeria to victory.
