Victor Boniface in trouble? Super Eagles star under investigation over alleged foul gesture in Bayer Leverkusen’s Super Cup win

Nigerian forward Victor Boniface is facing scrutiny after the German Football Association (DFB) initiated an investigation into his conduct following Bayer Leverkusen’s Super Cup win against VfB Stuttgart, Soccernet.ng reports.

The investigation, announced by the DFB on Monday as per Weltfussball, centers around an alleged unsporting gesture made by Boniface during the post-match celebrations.

The 23-year-old Super Eagles forward reportedly raised his middle finger towards opposing players as he ran past them following Leverkusen’s dramatic 4-3 victory on penalties.

The match, held on Saturday night, saw Boniface score an early goal in the 11th minute before being substituted for tactical reasons after Martin Terrier’s red card in the first half.

Referee Tobias Stieler, who officiated the match, stated that he did not witness the alleged gesture, allowing the DFB’s control committee to pursue an investigation into the incident.

The DFB is examining whether Boniface’s actions constitute blatant anti-sporting behavior.

While Boniface has been asked to comment on the allegations, the situation remains murky.

Stuttgart players have reportedly accused the Nigerian of the offensive gesture, but there is no concrete evidence or TV footage to confirm the incident.

The controversy escalated tensions, with Stuttgart’s players nearly leaving the pitch in protest, only to be stopped by their press officer.

Adding to the drama, Boniface received a yellow card for dissent in the 80th minute while on the bench, following a VAR decision that went against his team.

Boniface was named Rookie of the Year last season following a spectacular debut campaign in Germany which culminated in Bayer Leverkusen winning the Bundesliga for the first time in the club’s history.
