Photo: Lazio’s former Brazilian star passes iconic no. 7 jersey to Fisayo Dele-Bashiru

Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has been handed Lazio’s iconic number 7 jersey, previously worn by the club’s former Brazilian star, Felipe Anderson, Soccernet.ng reports.

Felipe Anderson, known for his blistering pace, technical brilliance, and game-changing abilities, quickly became a fan favourite at the Stadio Olimpico.

During his time with Lazio, Anderson played a crucial role in the club’s attacking lineup, delivering vital goals and assists that left a lasting legacy.

Now, the responsibility of wearing the revered number 7 falls on Dele-Bashiru, marking a noteworthy moment in his career and adding pressure to prove his worth to the Lazio faithful.

In a photo circulating on Nigerian media pages, the former Sheffield United midfielder was seen holding his new jersey alongside his manager, Angelo Mariano Fabiani.

Speaking at the unveiling, Dele-Bashiru acknowledged the tactical complexity of Italian football and expressed his eagerness to adapt to Serie A with the support of his coach.

“Italian football is very tactical; this is the biggest challenge. My favourite role is as a number 8 or 10. I am ready to play and make the fans happy. I had some problems at the beginning of the season, but now I am better, and I am understanding what the coach wants,” he said.

“The training I received at Manchester City was very good, and Turkish football taught me a lot. I know I’ll need to adapt to Serie A, but I’ve found a very supportive environment here, and I hope we can have a great season.”

Dele-Bashiru is set to make his Serie A debut on Sunday when Lazio welcomes Venezia to Rome. The midfielder will be eager to make a strong first impression and begin his journey with the club on a high note.
