Official: Debrecen’s best player Ojediran becomes fourth Nigerian to join Ligue 1’s RC Lens

Nigerian midfielder Hamzat Ojediran has completed his move to Ligue 1 side RC Lens, signing a four-year contract with the French club, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 20-year-old arrives from Hungarian team Debrecen, where he spent the last two years impressing as a dynamic and tenacious presence in midfield.

RC Lens General Manager, Pierre Dreossi, expressed his enthusiasm for the new signing:

“We are pleased to announce the signing of Hamzat Ojediran for the next four seasons. A revelation in the Hungarian championship in 2023/24, Hamzat is a true force of nature.”

Ojediran first caught attention during the 2019 U17 World Cup in Brazil, where he was a key player for Nigeria. His strong performances helped the Super Eagles reach the round of 16.

After honing his skills at the Emmanuel Amunike Academy, Ojediran moved to Albania in 2022, where he quickly established himself at KV Egnatia. His European journey continued with Debrecen VSC, where he made an immediate impact.

In Hungary, Ojediran was integral to Debrecen’s midfield, earning praise for his ball-winning ability and physicality.

Last season, he played 26 matches across all competitions, contributing two goals and two assists. His efforts earned him the title of Debrecen’s “Player of the Season” for 2023/24.

Now, Ojediran takes his talents to RC Lens, where he becomes the fourth Nigerian to sign for the French club.

Felix Aladesanmi Ademola, Wilson Oruma, and John Utaka are the other Nigerians to join Lens but only the latter two played at least a game for the club.

Ojediran will don the number 15 jersey.
