Transfer: Wolves and West Ham gear up for showdown over Super Eagles’ free agent star

Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho's contracts with Leicester City expired in June, making them free agents

Two Premier League clubs, Wolverhampton and West Ham United, are set to battle for the signature of Super Eagles star Kelechi Iheanacho, who is currently a free agent, Soccernet.ng reports.

Iheanacho, formerly of Manchester City, saw his contract with Leicester City expire on June 30, making him available on the market.

His availability has caught the attention of Wolves and West Ham, both of whom are keen to strengthen their squads ahead of the upcoming season, as reported by GivemeSports.

Gary O’Neil has been proactive in bolstering his Wolves squad, spending nearly £30 million early in the transfer window to secure Rodrigo Gomes, Pedro Lima, and Jorgen Strand Larsen, while also converting Tommy Doyle’s loan from Manchester City into a permanent deal.

Similarly, West Ham, under new head coach Julen Lopetegui, have shown a readiness to invest significantly, with Luis Guilherme’s £25 million transfer from Palmeiras being their most expensive acquisition so far.

Despite these substantial investments, both clubs remain active in the market, with Iheanacho being a prime target.

In addition to interest from Wolves and West Ham, Iheanacho has been linked with moves to Crystal Palace, Besiktas, and Trabzonspor in Turkey, as well as Sevilla in Spain.

However, it seems increasingly likely that the Nigerian forward may choose to remain in England, given his familiarity with the league and his business interests in the country.
