Official: Super Eagles star pens new deal at Leicester City

Former English Premier League champions Leicester City have confirmed that Nigeria midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has signed a new contract at the club, Soccernet.ng reports.

Ndidi has been at Leicester City since 2017, when the club signed him from Gent for €17.6 million. The Nigerian midfielder was brought in as a replacement after Ngolo Kante left the club for Chelsea, and he fit in perfectly.

Ndidi has been Leicester City’s most consistent player since then. His performance even caught the eyes of some top clubs in Europe, with Manchester United even considering a move for him at some point.

However, he started having injury problems in the 2020/21 season, and that limited his game time. Still, he has been quite reliable for the Foxes.

Last season, he had a good campaign with Leicester City, producing four goals and five assists in 32 games to help the club win the English Championship and gain promotion to the English top flight.

However, Ndidi’s future has been in the balance because his contract at Leicester City expired at the end if last season and he refused to sign a new deal.

The 27-year-old midfielder was linked with clubs in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Spain, but nothing concrete emerged.

Meanwhile, those talks can now be put to bed, as Leicester City have announced that Ndidi has signed a new three-year contract at the club.

With Kelechi Iheanacho already out of the club, Ndidi will become the only Nigerian player at Leicester City next season. He will be looking to put up a strong showing next season when they return to Premier League football, a season after they got relegated.
