Heart still in Nigeria: Ex-Super Eagles coach supports Super Falcons in Olympic opener vs. Brazil – PHOTOS

Super Falcons of Nigeria suffered a defeat to Brazil’s Canarinhas in their opening Group C match in Bordeaux

Former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, was spotted at the Bordeaux Stadium during Nigeria’s clash against Brazil, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to the Brazilians, with Gabi Nunes’ first-half goal making the difference in the opening match.

However, for many Nigerians, the main attraction was the presence of the German tactician, Rohr, who came to cheer on the Nigerian ladies as they gave their all on the field.

Rohr, now the head coach of the Benin Republic national team, attended the event with his son, Oscar Rohr, who was proudly wearing the 2018 edition of the Nigerian jersey.

Rohr has often expressed his love for Nigeria and the warm reception he received from the staff and Nigerian people during his tenure as the Super Eagles coach.

“We have differences between Francophone and Anglophone countries, but I didn’t have any problem adapting in Nigeria because I was welcomed by everybody—not only in the team but also by the staff and Nigerians,” Rohr said, as quoted by BoomPlay.

He added: “When I go out, I feel this love everywhere. The only people I don’t feel this love from is a particular group, especially after the AFCON, and you know who they are. But everywhere else, whether here or in other places, I feel this love. This makes it very hard to leave because human relationships are important.”

Rohr was sacked as the head coach of the Super Eagles by the then Amaju Pinnick-led administration due to issues of discipline within the dressing room.

Despite his departure, Rohr’s heart remains with Nigeria, as evidenced by his support for the Super Falcons in their Olympic opener against Brazil.
