Ex-Super Eagles coach and defensive midfielder, Sunday Ogochukwu Oliseh, has backed Spain wonderkid, Lamine Yamal, to become the best footballer in the World, Soccernet.ng reports.
The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder has been full of praise for Spain’s young wingers (Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal) for their directness and creativity during the EURO 2024 tournament.
In Spain’s semi-final clash against 2018 World Cup winners – Didier Deschamps France, 16-year-old Lamal took the game by the scruff of its neck, scoring a goal worthy of the Puskas award, sweeping a left-footed shot into the top corner of Mike Maignan’s goal.
The ball went into the back of the net off the inside of the woodwork to make Yamal the youngest-ever goalscorer at the European Championships, helping La Roja to a 2-1 victory over Les Bleus.
The teenager’s performance left Oliseh in awe, and he took to his X page to express his thoughts after the Barcelona winger was given the Man of the Match award.
“I am totally amazed at the football intelligence this player has shown at this European championship. We could be witnessing the birth of the World Player of the Year in the near future,” the ex-Juventus winger posted on his X page.
Lamine Yamal is a strong contender for the EURO 2024 Young Player of the Tournament alongside Real Madrid’s Arda Guler and Athletic Club’s Nico Williams.
