Ademola Lookman: Atalanta ready to make Nigeria winger record departure after Man United star

Atalanta BC will only let Ademola Lookman leave Bergamo this season if their financial demands are met by the Nigeria star’s admirers, Soccernet.ng understands.

Lookman has seen an exponential rise in his stock after an excellent campaign for Atalanta and Nigeria during the 2023/24 season.

The 26-year-old scored 20 goals and added nine assists for club and country to become one of the most in-demand Nigerian players in Europe.

After contributing three goals and an assist (the most of any Nigerian player) to help the Super Eagles finish second at the Africa Cup of Nations in February, Lookman then took Atalanta to unprecedented heights.

The former RB Leipzig and Leicester City winger fired a brilliant hat-trick in the final of the Europa League to hand Atalanta the first continental trophy in their history.

His exploits have not gone unnoticed with some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Juventus, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich, credited with interest in his services.

Atalanta are not desperate to see the Super Eagles forward leave, though, and with two years left on his current contract, the Italian giants hold the ace in any transfer negotiation.

The Goddess are open to letting Lookman leave Bergamo at the right price, though, and according to CalcioNews24, his transfer fee would be in the region of €70 million.

If Lookman departs Atalanta for that hefty fee, he will become the second most expensive sale in the club’s history.

Atalanta’s record sale remains the €73.5million transfer of 20-year-old Rasmus Højlund to Manchester United last year.

Lookman joined Atalanta in 2022 on a four-year deal for just under €10 million from German Bundesliga side, RB Leipzig.
