Dele-Bashiru pens new deal at Watford

Nigerian midfielder Tom Dele-Bashiru has signed a new three-year contract with English Championship club Watford, Soccernet.ng reports.

Dele Bashiru started his football career at Manchester City, but he joined Watford in 2019 after the end of his contract.

At Vicarage Road, he struggled to pin down a consistent starting shirt in his first two season, and he had to go on loan to Reading for a year. But last season, the 24-year-old attacking midfielder came into his own.

Dele-Bashiru registered two goals and two assists in 35 appearances in the run-up to their 15th place finish in the English Championship last season.

Following his decent campaign, the club have decided to reward him with a new contract. Dele-Bashiru’s contract was supposed to expire in the summer of 2025.

But in a new development according to New York Times, Watford have handed the Manchester City Academy graduate a three-year extension that will see him remain at the club until 2028.

Dele-Bashiru will be looking to have a better campaign with Watford next season as they push for Premier League promotion.

The 24-year-old is eligible for England and Nigeria because he was born in England to Nigerian parents. He played for England at Under-16 level, but he switched and played for Nigeria at under-20 and under-23 level. However, he has not played for the Super Eagles.

Tom Dele-Bashiru is older brother of Super Eagles star Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
