Transfer: QPR, Union Saint-Gilloise on alert as Chippa United state Stanley Nwabali’s price tag

Stanley Nwabali saved two spot-kicks in the AFCON 2023 semi-final, helping Nigeria to a victory over the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

South African Premiership side, Chippa United have slammed a ₦2.245 billion price tag on Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Bobo Nwabali, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper sprung the biggest surprise for fans of Nigerian football in Ivory Coast. In his first-ever competition for the Super Eagles, the Chippa United goalkeeper kept four clean sheets in seven games, helping the three-time AFCON winners to second place as they lost to the hosts in the AFCON 2023 final.

Nwabali denied Teboho Mokoena and Evidence Makgopa from twelve yards in the penalty shoot-out as the Super Eagles edged South Africa to reach the AFCON 2023 final.

Following his brilliant outing at the biggest African tournament, several clubs abroad started to monitor the former Enyimba International man.

Queens Park Rangers, Royal Union Saint-Gilloise, Kaizer Chiefs and Saudi Arabian Al-Ettifaq were all reported to be interested in the services of the 1.96m tall goalkeeper.

Chippa United CEO, Siviwe Mpengesi, confirmed that his team is in talks with other football clubs as regards Nwabali’s future after the 1.97m tall goalkeeper revealed he won’t be renewing his contract with the Chilli Boys this summer, as earlier reported by Soccernet.ng.

According to multiple reports from the South African media, Chippa United are requesting about £1.3 million (R30 million or ₦2.245 billion) to sell Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Kaizer Chiefs are unwilling to pay that amount, hinting at a move abroad for Nwabali, as the asking price is considered a decent amount for all of the other clubs interested. The Nigerian’s current deal with Chippa United runs till the summer of 2026.
