PSG to outpace Chelsea for Super Eagles talisman following Mbappe’s assured exit

Victor Osimhen was the best African Player in 2023, scoring 26 Serie A goals and claiming a top ten Ballon d'Or spot as well.

French Ligue 1 Champions, Paris Saint-Germain have advanced in talks with Nigeria and Napoli striker, Victor James Osimhen, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move away from Italy, with several top clubs queueing to have the Super Eagles striker don their jersey, but his release clause is proving to be a stumbling block.

The clause is worth around €130million, and the club’s president, Aurelien De Laurentiis is unwilling to listen to offers below the included price tag.

The former LOSC Lille striker who helped Napoli to their first Serie A title in over three decades, was unable to inspire the team to a defence this season, and the striker is looking to move to bigger clubs once the transfer window opens.

Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are the two major clubs vying to secure the signature of the former Wolfsburg striker, for separate reasons.

Pochetinno’s team needs a central figure in attack who has an abundance of clinical finishing in his feet, while Le Parisien are looking to replace the departing Kylian Mbappe, who has been rumoured to be heading to the Santiago Bernabeu.

According to Sports Zone, PSG are the most advanced in securing a move for Victor Osimhen, with their Sporting director, Luís Campos, keen to push through the deal, although they face fierce competition from the Premier League. For Chelsea co-owner, Todd Boehly, Osimhen remains the priority target for the London club.

Soccernet.ng earlier reported that Chelsea are weighing up a €90m+Romelu Lukaku offer for Osimhen, while PSG are also considering including Goncalo Ramos, Marco Asensio and Carlos Soler in the hopes that the former Lille man returns to France.

Chelsea views the fee as too high, but Paris Saint-Germain are willing to do what it takes to make Osimhen their poster boy, although the choice largely rests in the strikers’ hands.
