Why Southampton-owned Onuachu did not play in Trabzonspor vs Kayserispor clash

Trabzonspor secured a crucial win with a 2-1 triumph over Kayserispor in an away match yesterday without Paul Onuachu playing a minute despite being on the bench, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles attacker, who is on loan from Southampton to Trabzon, has missed five matches for the Black Sea Storm due to an injury picked up against Basaksehir.

Trabzonspor’s victory was significant, especially considering the absence of the Super Eagles attacker in the forward lineup. Despite expectations of Onuachu’s participation, coach Abdullah Avcı opted for Enis Destan, who had fully recovered from his injury.

Destan proved instrumental in the match, contributing one goal and providing an assist with his impressive performance. However, the former KRC Genk forward, who was recently sidelined due to injury, was not risked for the game and did not see any playing time.

Following the victory, the team returned to Trabzon last night, and Onuachu resumed training this morning. It was observed that Onuachu showed eagerness and had undergone special preparations ahead of the upcoming match against Karagümrük in the Ziraat Turkey Cup.

The Nigerian attacker will be aiming for a full return to action and continue his goalscoring form when they host Karagümrük at the Papara Park on Wednesday.
