Montpellier striker Akor Adams has stated that he is optimistic about his chances of breaking into the Super Eagles squad despite the abundance of attacking talent in the squad, Soccernet.ng reports.
Adams has shot to limelight this year, following his transfer from Norwegian side Lillestrom in a deal worth €4.5 million. The 24-year-old striker started the season on a high, registering seven goals in his first ten games.
However, he has tailed off since then. In fact, Adams has failed to rattle a net in Ligue 1 since November 2023. Nonetheless, he has kept on getting minutes at Montpellier.
Meanwhile, on the international scene, Adams is yet to mark. The former Lillestrom man featured for Nigeria at youth level, but he appears quite distant from the senior national team. This is because of the abundance of attacking talent in the team. The Super Eagles have one of the most formidable attacks in the world, boasting of stars like Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Terem Moffi. There are also other strikers who are doing well like Cyriel Dessers, Sadiq Umar, Gift Orban, and Paul Onuachu.
Nonetheless, despite the array of stars, Adams is optimistic that he can play for the Super Eagles in the future.
“We all have our place and we are privileged to have so many good strikers and so many good players,” Adams told Oluwashina Okeleji.
“So, when the time comes, I’ll take the opportunity. It’s a dream for every Nigerian kid, which I am one of.”
Adams may have to wait a while before he gets his call-up though. He has to prove himself for at least a season. If he can improve on his goal returns by next season, he could get a shot at playing for the Super Eagles.
