I want to stay with Trabzonspor – Paul Onuachu amid proposed return to Southampton

Paul Onuachu joined Trabzonspor from Southampton on a season-long loan in the 2023 Summer transfer window

Nigerian international, Paul Onuachu, has declared that he and his family want to remain in Trabzon following a proposed return to Southampton FC, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles striker made a switch from England to Turkey after a poor four-month run with the Saints, firing blanks in all of his 12 appearances.

Joining the Süper Lig side on a season-long loan, the Nigerian established himself immediately as a key player in the team, adjusting to life easily.

Aside from injury setbacks faced in Turkey, the Nigerian has found his feet again, scoring nine goals and making three assists in all of his 18 appearances.

As quoted by Fotomac, the Nigerian, who is due to move away from Turkey and return to join the EFL Championship-bound side, has revealed his desire to stay in Trabzonspor.

“I am very happy in Trabzon. My family and I want to stay here,” he said as quoted by Saints Socialite.

However, the Black Sea Storm cannot meet Onuachu’s €12 million buy-out clause, which they are hoping to renegotiate for another season-long loan as they are short of strikers.

If this deal does not go through as planned, the Trabzon-based club is looking for alternatives as they aim to sign five to six players at the end of the season.

“We are working hard on transfers. We want to bring in high-level, highly committed players like Meunier to the team,” said Abdullah Avcı.

The Turkish club sits third in the Süper Lig standings, and will be hoping that Onuachu, who is gearing up for a brisk return from injury, will help them finish the season strongly.
