Another blow! Fresh Osimhen injury casts shadow over Nigeria’s clash vs Ghana and Mali

Victor Osimhen has been named in Super Eagles squad to face Ghana and Mali on March 22 and 26 respectively

Nigeria’s hopes for upcoming clashes against Ghana and Mali have been dimmed by fresh injury concerns surrounding star player Victor Osimhen,Soccernet.ng reports.

The availability of the 2023 CAF Best Player for Napoli’s match against Inter Milan on Sunday is in doubt due to a new muscular injury sustained during training.

Reports from Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, indicate that the Nigerian striker’s injury could also jeopardize his participation in the Super Eagles’ upcoming fixtures.

With Nigeria set to face Ghana in a highly anticipated friendly, Osimhen’s absence would be a significant blow to the team’s preparations.

The Super Eagles, aiming to reignite their rivalry with Ghana, are counting on a full-strength squad to secure victory.

However, Osimhen’s uncertain fitness status adds an element of concern to their preparations.

Napoli may also have to navigate their match against Inter Milan without their star forward, depending on the severity of Osimhen’s injury.

The decision regarding his inclusion in the squad for the upcoming fixture will depend on his performance in today’s training session. Should Osimhen fail to complete a normal training routine, Napoli will not risk exacerbating his injury.

In the event of Osimhen’s absence, Giovanni Simeone is likely to step in as his replacement, having deputized for the Nigerian striker on previous occasions this season.

As Nigeria braces for their upcoming matches, the uncertainty surrounding Osimhen’s fitness remains a cause for concern for both club and country.
