“We have revenge to take against Nigeria,” declares Dortmund star Haller ahead of Afcon final

Sebastien Haller scored an audacious volley in Ivory Coast’s AFCON 2023 semi-final clash against the Democratic Republic of Congo to send the hosts to the final.

Ivory Coast and Borussia Dortmund striker, Sébastien Teddy Haller, has clarified that he alongside his teammates, are eyeing a revenge against Nigeria in the AFCON 2023 final, Soccernet.ng reports.

Haller, 29, didn’t feature in Cote D’ivoire’s group stage clash against Nigeria due to a foot injury. Jose Peseiro’s men won the game by a lone goal, thanks to a William Troost-Ekong penalty which was buried down the middle.

Since that time, the AFCON 2023 hosts have defied the odds. They qualified despite being third in Group A, defeated the defending AFCON Champions, Senegal, on penalties, and are set to face the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Sunday.

Haller, who defeated testicular cancer in January 2023, could have had a perfect ending to his debut Bundesliga season, but his missed penalty meant Borussia Dortmund bottled the title on the last matchday.

The former Frankfurt man will be taking no chances against the Super Eagles after he scored the winner to send Ivory Coast to the final.

“We are playing the final against Nigeria. It is a great nation. It is huge. They beat us in the group stage, but we are already motivated to go and lift the trophy on Sunday in this stadium in front of the Ivorian people. We have revenge to take on Nigeria,” the former West Ham striker told BeIN Sports after Ivory Coast’s semi-final win.

Haller was born in France and represented Les Bleus at youth levels before opting to play for the Ivorians 2020.
