Watch: Napoli’s Victor Osimhen subbed off vs Cagliari clash, confirming earlier injury concerns

Victor Osimhen has scored two goals in two matches since his return to Napoli from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen was forced off the pitch due to injury during Napoli’s Serie A clash against Cagliari on Sunday, as reported by Soccernet.ng.

This incident serves as further confirmation that Osimhen, a key player for both club and country, bravely competed in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final against Côte d’Ivoire despite carrying a significant injury sustained.

Although Osimhen managed to contribute a single goal during the tournament, several of his other goals were disallowed after VAR review.

Following Napoli’s 1-0 loss to AC Milan, Osimhen was deemed unfit to participate in their subsequent match against Genoa.

However, he was cleared to play in the UEFA Champions League fixture against Barcelona, where he scored a crucial equalizer.

In the clash against Cagliari, Osimhen once again showcased his attacking prowess by scoring the opening goal for Napoli. However, Zito Luvumbo’s late equaliser denied Napoli and Osimhen a victory.

A video captured by CBS Sports Golazo spotted Osimhen limping off the field, prompting a substitution. This latest setback adds to Napoli’s challenges, as they currently occupy the 9th position in the Serie A standings.

Although no official update has been provided regarding the extent of Osimhen’s injury, Napoli will hope for his swift recovery ahead of their upcoming matches.
