Stanley Nwabali saved two penalties during Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup Of Nations semi-final clash against South Africa
Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has broken his silence on social media following Nigeria’s victory over South Africa in the semi-final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Soccernet.ng reports.
In a tightly contested match, both teams entered the semi-final with impressive defensive records, having maintained four consecutive clean sheets. However, it was Nigeria that secured a spot in the finals.
During the crucial penalty shootout, Ronwen Williams, South Africa’s goalkeeper, failed to replicate his previous heroics, saving no penalties, while Nwabali made two crucial saves.
Former Nigerian goalkeeper Idah Peterside, speaking on Channels TV, raised concerns about alleged threats directed at Nwabali by South African fans, urging him not to return to his club, Chippa United, following his standout performance against their national team.

Taking to social media, Nwabali shared his thoughts on the match and extended a message of love to both Nigerian and South African fans.
He expressed his passion for the game and emphasised his enduring affection for South Africa, where he currently plays club football.
“This is a game I’m born to play. A night to remember!!! I felt every bit of it!!! Brick by brick and dreams are coming true. No love lost at all. I still love South Africa as much as their fans loves me and I love this team with all my heart,” Nwabali wrote on his social media platform.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper made the move to South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Chippa United in December 2022 from Nigerian Professional Football League side Katsina United.
Having impressed so far in his AFCON debut for his country, he will be hoping to continue his impressive performance when Nigeria tackle Côte d’Ivoire at the final of the 2023 AFCON tournament.
