Nigerians Abroad: Dennis finds scoring touch at Watford as Tella’s Leverkusen thrash Bayern to go five points clear on Bundesliga table

Football fans around the world have been on the edge of their seats as Nigerian footballers dazzled in the domestic European leagues. Some left us with a bitter taste in our mouths, while others gave us sweet memories to cherish.

Soccernet.ng takes a look at some of the Nigerian players in action this weekend.

Nottingham Forest loanee, Emmanuel Dennis scored in his third appearance for Watford. The 26-year-old came on against Leicester City with thirty minutes left to spare and profited off an Harry Winks mistake as he tapped into an empty goal, a consolation for the Hornets as Leicester hung on to their slender one goal lead. It was his first goal since March 2023.

Nathan Tella played a little over sixty minutes in Leverkusen’s 3-0 win over Bundesliga record Champions, Bayern Munich. The former Southampton winger exchanged quick passes with Alex Grimaldo before the Spanish wing-back tugged the ball beyond Manuel Neuer.

Taiwo Awoniyi’s Nottingham Forest lost 3-2 to Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United. The 26-year-old thought he’d scored Forest’s third of the evening, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

In the Spanish La Liga, Sadiq Umar’s Real Sociedad continued their four game winless run as they lost to Osasuna by a single goal. Sadiq Umar came on in the 63rd minuted but could only attempt three passes.

In the French Division 1 women, Chiamaka Nnadozie impressed in Paris FC’s 6-2 away win at Bordeaux. The win sees them go third on the league table, but they’re still eleven points behind league leaders, Lyon.

With so much excitement in European football coming from Nigeria, fans worldwide can’t wait to see what’s next for these talented players!
