The AFCON just ended, and the attention has returned to Nigerian players in Europe
Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers scored a brace for Rangers to help them to a 2-1 victory over Ross County in their Scottish Premiership fixture, Soccernet.ng reports.
Dessers has been banging in goals aplenty for Rangers since the start of the year despite missing out on a spot in Nigeria’s squad for the AFCON. Prior to their game against Ross County on Wednesday, Dessers had scored four goals this year, but he added to his tally.
Dessers scored the opener for Rangers in the 5th minute. He got played through on goal by James Tavernier, who sent a long pass from the defence. Dessers then got the ball in the box, controlled, and chipped the on-running goalkeeper to make it 1-0.
However, Simon Murray scored the equalizer for the visitors in the 29th minute. But just before halftime, Dessers scored again to give the Gers the lead going into the break.
Rangers had a plethora of chances, but they failed to take them. Eventually, John Souttar scored the third goal for Rangers in stoppage time of the second half, 20 minutes after Dessers was taken out of the game.
Rangers won the game 3-1, and it ensured that they drew level on points with Celtic, who sit on top of the Premiership.
Meanwhile, in Italy, Super Falcons star Jennifer Echegini scored a brace for Juventus Women to help them to a hard-fought 2-0 win over Inter Milan.
Echegini joined Juventus at the start of the year, and she has been impressive for the club since she joined. Her first-half brace for the Italian giants on Wednesday took her goal tally to four for Juventus. The win also took Juventus above Fiorentina on the Serie A women’s league.
