“I want more” – Rangers’ Cyriel Dessers sets new goal target after hitting good form

Cyrield Dessers joined Scottish Champions, Rangers, from Cremonese in a deal worth five million euros and has helped The Teddy Bears to second place in the Scottish Premiership this season.

Super Eagles and Rangers centre-forward, Cyriel Kolawole Dessers, has recalibrated his goals for the season, redefining his hunger for glory with the Ibrox faithfuls, Soccernet.ng reports.

Dessers, 29, joined Rangers from Italian side, Cremonese, in a deal worth five million euros and despite struggling to fit in initially, he has finally hit the ground running for The Gers.

The Super Eagles striker was not included in Jose Peseiro’s AFCON 2023 squad list, and as the competition was ongoing, he went about his goalscoring business quietly, scoring four goals in that period.

Speaking after scoring a brace against Ross County in the league on Wednesday, the striker revealed he wants to do more for his club and as an individual.

“At the start of the season, we had to talk about our goals with the striker coach. I don’t like to pin myself to a number of goals but I said I want to contribute to twenty-five goals in the season. I am on twenty-one now with fourteen goals and seven assists. So we are getting closer. I hope we still have a lot of games to go in the league, in Europe, in the cup,” the former PSV Eindhoven striker said in quotes revealed by The Daily Record.

With just four goal contributions short of his pre-season aim, Dessers wants to do more than he set for himself.

“I am not satisfied with this. I want more goals, I want more assists, I want more victories. We want to keep going, all of us. It is fair to say the fans wanted more against Ross County, and we wanted more as well. The most important thing is that we had a lot of chances and shots,” the four-time capped Nigerian added.

Rangers are currently second on the Scottish Premiership table, level on points and goal difference with Celtic who occupy the top spot.
