Former Cameroon goalkeeper hints at Nigeria’s goalkeeping success amidst pre-AFCON controversies

Stanley Nwabali who replaced Francis Uzoho during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign, has kept four clean sheets so far

Former Cameroon goalkeeper, Joseph Antoine, subtly addressed pre-Africa Cup of Nations goalkeeping concerns surrounding the Nigeria team, as reported by Soccernet.ng.

During the Confederation of African Football’s press conference, witnessed by Soccernet, the ex-Olympic Marseille goalie made reference to the Super Eagles, who faced goalkeeper uncertainties after losing faith in Francis Uzoho.

Leading up to the tournament, Jose Peseiro called up Stanley Nwabali, who, with five appearances for the Super Eagles in the campaign, has conceded only once.

During the presser, Antoine emphasised the unpredictable nature of the 2023 AFCON tournament, labeling it as one of the best editions so far.

In a veiled reference to Nigeria, Antoine hinted that despite pre-tournament concerns about the goalkeeping situation, the team has successfully reached the semi-final, alleviating earlier worries.

“I won’t mention names, but there’s a team whose fans, before the tournament, complained a lot about having a goalkeeping problem. Today, they’re in the semi-final, and there are fewer complaints,” remarked Antoine without explicitly naming the team.

The Super Eagles goalkeeper faced a setback during Nigeria’s clash against Cameroon but made a triumphant return in the game against Angola, bringing joy to Nigerian football fans.
