Ex-Barcelona star Oshoala reacts to post comparing Nigeria’s Nwabali to German great Oliver Kahn after South Africa win

The former Bayern Munich ace is regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers in the history of the beautiful game

With her tongue in cheek, Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala has suggested that Super Eagles shot-stopper Stanley Nwabali is better than legendary German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nwabali is Nigeria’s most beloved footballer at the moment following his stunning exploits at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Chippa United goalie was not even in the Nigerian national team picture a few months ago, when Francis Uzoho was the Super Eagles number-one globesman.

As fate would have it, Nwabali became coach Jose Peseiro’s first-choice for the AFCON and he has impressed with a string of excellent displays.

The 27-year-old has conceded two goals in six games at the continental showpiece, keeping a clean sheet in four of those.

Nwabali’s profile shot through the roof on Wednesday, when he stopped two penalties to help Nigeria beat South Africa and advance to the final of the tournament.

Many Nigerian fans and former internationals, including ex-Juventus and Ajax midfielder Sunday Oliseh, has been singing the praises of Nwabali.

One Twitter influencer, Mayor of Ekiti, went as far as comparing Nwabali to former Germany international Oliver Kahn.

In his post, Mayor of Ekiti shared that Nwabali is better than the former Bayern Munich goalie.

Former Barcelona forward Oshoala, who is always at loggerheads with the views of Mayor of Ekiti, however, reacted to the post, agreeing that Nwabali is the better goalkeeper.

Oshoala wrote: “I know say you dey ment but I agree with u today.”

After winning the hearts of millions of Nigerians with his impressive outing in the tournament, Nwabali will look to crown his effort with the trophy when Nigeria meet Cote d’Ivoire in the final.

Hosts Cote d’Ivoire secured their berth in the title-decider with a 1-0 win over DR Congo in the other semifinal also on Wednesday.
