All Africa Games: Nigeria’s Flying Eagles to face Senegal, Tunisia, Uganda, South Sudan in Ghana

In a bid to soar to glory at the upcoming 2023 All Africa Games, Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have intensified their preparations at the training camp in Abuja, under the watchful eye of head coach Ladan Bosso, Soccernet.ng reports.

The seasoned coach, credited with guiding the Flying Eagles to the quarterfinals of the FIFA U20 World Cup last year, is meticulously fine-tuning the squad for the challenge ahead.

Scheduled to kick off their campaign in Accra, one of the three host cities for the African Games, the Flying Eagles are set to depart for Ghanaian shores on March 1, 2024.

A squad of 18 players is expected to represent Nigeria at the event, with the initial roster comprising 30 players currently undergoing rigorous training.

“In selecting the final 18, we have six eligible players from the FIFA U20 World Cup last year, another six from the Nduka Ugbade-led Golden Eaglets, and the remaining six from the Nigeria Leagues,” stated head coach Ladan Bosso.

This strategy aligns with the developmental focus of the coaching staff, addressing both experience and talent across different tiers of Nigerian football.

The 2023 All African Games will see nine teams vying for glory, including hosts Ghana, Benin, Congo, Gambia, Nigeria, Senegal, Tunisia, South Sudan, and Uganda.

The competition unfolds in two groups, with Ghana, Benin, Gambia, and Congo comprising Group A, while Group B features Nigeria, Senegal, Tunisia, Uganda, and South Sudan.

In the group stage, only the top two teams from each group will secure a spot in the semifinals.

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles are set to face Uganda on March 8, followed by clashes with South Sudan on March 10, Senegal on March 12, and Tunisia on March 14 to complete their group-stage fixtures.

Despite their illustrious football history, Nigeria only boast one football gold medal at the All Africa Games.
