Awoniyi has been out of action since November, but he could make his return against Arsenal at the Emirates
Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi is set to return to action for Nottingham Forest when they take on Arsenal at the City Ground on Tuesday, Soccernet.ng reports.
Awoniyi had a good start to the season for Nottingham Forest, registering four goals and two assists in his first ten Premier League appearances.
However, his fitness was constantly in doubt because he was constantly dealing with some discomfort. Unfortunately, it got to a head in November, as he had to undergo surgery.
This injury ruled him out of the Africa Cup of Nations, and he has also missed the Tricky Trees’ last twelve games.
Awoniyi has been on the sidelines for the last six weeks, but he looks set to return to action soon. Ahead of Nottingham Forest’s game against Arsenal at City Ground on Tuesday, coach Espirito Santo has revealed, per Nottingham Post, that Awoniyi is back in training.
Furthermore, sources close to Awoniyi have also revealed to Soccernet.ng that the 26-year-old attacker was supposed to make the squad for Nottingham Forest’s game against Bristol City. Still, he could not make it in time because he was not fit enough. However, he could make the bench against Arsenal on Tuesday.
The last time Nottingham Forest played against Arsenal, Awoniyi got off the bench to score. Coach Espirito Santo will hope that the Nigerian can produce another impressive performance against the Gunners.
