Alhassan Yusuf picked up an injury in Nigeria’s opening 2023 Africa Cup of Nations clash against Equatorial Guinea
The Super Eagles of Nigeria returned to training following their triumphant clash against the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations host, Côte d’Ivoire, as per Soccernet.ng.
During yesterday’s training session, Alhassan Yusuf, the Royale Antwerp defensive midfielder who sustained an injury in Nigeria’s match against Equatorial Guinea, rejoined the squad in preparation for the final group-stage encounter against Guinea-Bissau.
However, conflicting reports from a conversation between Brila FM and Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro indicate that Yusuf has been ruled out of the upcoming clash with the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau.
Despite the earlier rumours suggesting Yusuf’s tournament-ending scan results, his appearance in training implies ongoing efforts to recover from the injury.
Peseiro commented: “[Alhassan] Yusuf cannot perform in the next match, impossible, but Zaidu [Sanusi] has gone to check today. We have two days; the match is on the 22nd, and we have 48 hours [to determine his availability].”
While uncertainties persist, the Super Eagles are gearing up for their Monday fixture against Guinea-Bissau, aiming to conclude the group stage on a positive note. The Nigerian squad is diligently exploring all possibilities to finish the group stage in excellent form.
