AFCON 2023: Five things we learned from Cameroon vs Nigeria clash

The Super Eagles of Nigeria claimed a well-deserved 2-0 victory over Cameroon in the round of 16 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.

It was expected to be a tough fixture, but Nigeria was well-disciplined and fought hard to emerge victorious at the end of 90 minutes.

Soccernet.ng highlights some key points from the game at Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny on Saturday.

Victor Osimhen is back!

Osimhen has started for Nigeria in all four games at the AFCON so far, but his performance against Cameroon has been his best so far. He was full of running and challenged for every ball. It was because of his hardwork that Nigeria scored the first goal.

Nwabali has proven himself

Stanley Nwabali had a great game for Nigeria. He did not face many shots, his command of the area was magnificent, and his coordination was great in goal.

Nigeria has mastered the art of parking the bus

Since day one, when the Super conceded against Equatorial Guinea, they have kept it tight at the back and have not conceded. The 3-4-3 formation has worked like magic, and Nigeria are now defending well.

Lookman has been our best player so far

Ademola Lookman is playing the best football of his life at the moment.  He scored the brace that saw Nigeria through, but he had a great performance. He chased down every ball and was a constant threat to Cameroon’s backline.

Zaidu Sanusi has to improve

The Porto man has been a regular for Nigeria, but he has to improve. He has defended well, but his crosses have been poor. If he can work on his deliveries, it would be great for the Super Eagles.
