AFCON 2023: Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman heaps praise on Super Eagles ahead of Angola clash

Ademola Lookman switched allegiance to the Nigeria national football team in 2022 after rejecting the country on three occasions whilst waiting for the Three Lions of England.

Super Eagles and Atalanta winger, Ademola Olajade Lookman, has praised the Nigerian football team ahead of their AFCON 2023 quarter-final clash against Angola, Soccernet.ng reports.

Lookman, 26, was given the man of the match award after scoring a brace to help Nigeria sweep their neighbours, Cameroon aside at the Stade Félix-Houphouët-Boigny.

The former Leicester man was fed by Victor Osimhen and Fulham’s Calvin Bassey and has praised the team for the togetherness which has brought them into the quarter-finals.

“Wow, we’re so happy to qualify for the quarter-finals. The more we play together, the more fluid we become. I’m standing here now but this award reflects the whole team’s performance. I love this atmosphere, it’s incredible. Tonight our fans pushed us to the end because this was Cameroon, and when you wear the Super Eagles shirt, some games resonate more than others,” the former RB Leipzig man told CAF Online in his post-match interview.

With the Super Eagles set to face the Palancas Negras of Angola, Lookman recognizes that they’re a good side, but reinstated that Jose Peseiro’s men will prepare equally.

“Angola are a good team. We’ll analyze them and prepare. The further you go, the tougher it gets so we’ll take it game by game,” he added.

Angola have scored nine goals in four games at the AFCON 2023 tournament, meanwhile, Nigeria have kept three clean sheets.
