Uzoho out? Peseiro reportedly seeking solutions for Super Eagles goalkeeper crisis ahead of AFCON

Francis Uzoho has previously received backing from the Super Eagles’ head coach, Jose Peseiro, but this might not last for long.

Reports suggest that Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro is working on resolving the team’s goalkeeper situation as they prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament, Soccernet.ng reports.

Francis Uzoho, Peseiro’s primary goalkeeper, has faced scrutiny due to recent performances, raising doubts among Nigerian fans about his readiness for significant challenges.

The Portuguese gaffer, as well as Kenneth Omeruo, has previously backed the 25-year-old goalkeeper despite the questions in the Nigerian football community.

But his errors against Mozambique, Lesotho, and notably against Ghana in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifies, have sparked concerns about his capability, which Peseiro, who has previously backed him, is sorting for solutions.

The overall disappointing results of the Super Eagles have amplified worries about Nigeria’s prospects for securing their fourth AFCON trophy.

However, the Sports Minister of the federation, John Enoh, in a meeting with Peseiro, sought insights into the team’s readiness and current status.

During the meeting, it was revealed that Peseiro has been in touch with a potential goalkeeper to bolster the team’s strength for the upcoming tournament in Cote d’Ivoire.

However, the identity of this replacement remains undisclosed, leaving Nigerian football enthusiasts eager to see who will step in and whether they can match the country’s expectations.

  • He appeared at the AFCON and the World Cup. Uzoho had all the opportunity to step up his game but it is what it is. He lacks the confidence and composure of an average goalkeeper. His ability level is too low for any national team goalkeeper.
