Napoli boss Walter Mazzarri has praised Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen following his superb performance in their 2-1 win against Cagliari on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Serie A champions had to reach their third gear on Saturday when they claimed a 2-1 win over Cagliari. And Osimhen was at the center of all the action.

After a goalless first half, Osimhen took the bull by the horn. The reigning CAF Player of The Year scored the opener for Napoli in the 69th minute. Osimhen rose highest to meet a sweet cross from Mario Rui and sent a beautiful header into Cagliari’s goal.

Unfortunately, Napoli’s lead did not last as Pavoletti drew level for the Partenopeans three minutes later.

However, Osimhen wasn’t done the Nigerian striker showed his great technical ability, dribbling past three Cagliari players and setting the ball nicely for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who struck the ball the ball with venom to make it 2-1 to the Partenopeans.

The goal was just enough to seal a win for Napoli. And after the game, Mazzarri was quite please with Osimhen’s showing.

“I am glad that he and Kvara scored, because they were both looking a bit irritable. They needed to get back to being protagonists the way they were last season,” Mazzari said per Football Italia.

Osimhen’s goal was his seventh of the campaign, and he will be looking to add more to his tally before the end of the season.
