Iwobi and Bassey help Fulham to first League Cup semis after beating high-flying Everton

The Cottagers had never made the semis of the competition, but Iwobi and Bassey produced brilliant performances to create history

Super Eagles stars Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey starred for Fulham as they defeated Everton 2-1 on penalties in the quarterfinal of the English League Cup, Soccernet.ng reports.

Fulham boss Marco Silva handed Nigerian stars Iwobi and Bassey shirts in the starting lineup when they travelled to Goodison Park to take on Everton in the quarterfinal of the League Cup.

The Toffees have been in good form this season, and it was expected to be a tough game considering the fact that both clubs have been in good form recently.

The game lived up to the billing, as despite Everton’s dominance, Fulham scored the opener after Michael Keane fortuitously put the ball in his own net.

Iwobi had a good chance to double his side’s lead in the 68th minute, but Jordan Pickford saved his strike. Eventually, Beto scored the equaliser for Everton to drag the game into penalties. Iwobi was taken off just before the final whistle, but he had a good game.

The former Everton man had an average game, with a 58 percent pass accuracy and one shot on target.

Also, Bassey was decent, registering four clearances, two tackles, 66 touches, and four duels won.

Eventually, Fulham won the shootout 7-6 to qualify for their first-ever League Cup final.
