“He’s really amazing” – Super Eagles striker relishes working alongside Xabi Alonso

Victor Boniface made his Super Eagles debut in September 2023 as the Super Eagles defeated São Tomé and Príncipe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium…

Super Eagles striker, Victor Okoh Boniface, has expressed how he feels working alongside his club coach, Xabi Alonso, citing the Spaniard as a great example, Soccernet.ng reports.

The pair started working together about five months ago and seemed to have built a great relationship on and off the pitch.

Alonso, in his playing days, played for Real Sociedad, Eibar, Liverpool, and Real Madrid, before hanging his boots in Bavaria with Bayern Munich, and since then, has gone into the managerial world.

He joined Die Werkself from Real Sociedad in the middle of last season but has turned things around with Die Schwarzroten this season, as they’re currently top of the German Bundesliga, mounting a title charge no one would have predicted at the start of the season.

With Alonso at the helm of things, Bayer are yet to lose a game this term, drawing just two in the league, and those were against the big teams in the league – Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

Boniface, in awe of his managers’ antics, praised the Spaniard working under him in such a short time. Speaking in the post-match presser after Leverkusen’s draw against Dortmund, the Super Eagles striker shared his thoughts.

“It’s been working under Xabi. Everyone knows him as a great football player, and as a coach, he’s a really amazing person,” the 22-year-old said per OmaSports TV.

Leverkusen have won four of their last five games, with the 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund soiling their 100% record.
